Racing
Racing is where promotions have always been loudest, because TAB NZ grew out of it and still runs its business around the track. This section covers how a racing bet is struck and paid out.
Horse racing comes first, then the Melbourne Cup and greyhounds. Fixed-price and pool betting both exist, and a pool (tote) payout is called a dividend. The vocabulary is fixed by the TAB NZ rulebook. It runs from the simple win and place bets to each way and on to exotic forms: quinella, exacta, trifecta, first four.
Greyhound racing is wound down in stages from 1 August 2026; that is also the date from which offshore firms are barred from accepting greyhound wagers. Oversight of the sport lies with the Racing Integrity Board.
